Thanks to all for the great recommendations.  If I order the book now, maybe I can read it carefully so as not to crack the spine and then give it to Jon for Christmas.  He's out on the PCT (called last night on the satellite phone at Vermillion Valley), so he'll never know he's getting a used book.
