For millions of years, hikers the world over treated their water with respect.

I think you'll find the quickest cure for technology-on-trail, is a hike.



(That said, if you haven't spent time "out", expect some issues for a bit.
Once your body builds a degree of familiarity, you'll wonder what all the fuss is about.
But too, as already mentioned, you're going to catch social bugs anyway.
Bring some vitamin C, some spare paper, and adapt. Learn some of the following:

"I don't *see* any Giardia."
"Fish f*ck in that water, you know."
"No, no -- it's okay -- I'm a carrier."
and my personal fav:
"No worries here -- I'm a Dad."
