Update to Bob Marshall Complex Segment of the CDNST in Montana
August 10, 2007
A Fire Closure on the Lewis and Clark and Flathead National Forests limits
access to a large segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail
Travel along the CDNST is prohibited from Highway 2 south through the
Badger-Two Medicine area and adjoining Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex.
Due to fire activity, there are no viable alternative routes on the west or
east around the fire closure.
Continental Divide Trail users should plan on bypassing the stretch of
trail between Highway 200 at Rogers Pass and Highway 2 at Marias Pass, as
only the following trail segment is open:
From Highway 200 traveling north to Green Fork Cabin.
Hikers must exit the trail at either Smith Creek or Elk Creek
Glacier Park is still open, and the CDNST can be re-joined at
the southern edge of the park.
These fires are expected to actively burn until a season-ending weather
event, so it is unlikely that these segments of the CDNST will be re-opened
or safe to travel until late fall 2007.
