We are pleased that the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest has decided
to defer a route selection from Mule Ranch west to the Anaconda-Pintler
Wilderness. The original proposal, which would have retained much of the
road walk to Lower Seymour Lake, was unsatisfactory. The selection of
the existing American Creek route (instead of a circuitous route, with
PODs, along the eastern boundary of the Mount Haggin Wildlife Management
Area), is also to be applauded. We nevertheless submitted an appeal of
the decision because of its unsatisfactory treatment (or disregard) of
certain motorized/nonmotorized issues. After discussions with the Forest
Service, and its agreement to take specified remedial actions, we have
withdrawn the appeal. For additional information, see the What's New
section on www.cdtsociety.org
