I put sheet metal screws in my shoes for Glacier on my southbound hike last year. Worked very well! They fell out every once in awhile though, and I felt bad knowing I was littering. Took them out soon as possible. I own a pair of Kahtoolas too, but have never even used them after having such good experiences with those simple screws.
