I agree - The Sands motel is located near the Cafecito and Sailfush Lounge. There is even a computer at the bar! http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=271764

1) The trail goes right through Grants.  Although the town is pretty spread out, and has little charm, you can find pretty much anything you need, and it has easy access to the city.

2) In case you didn't know: There is good public transit access to Lordsburg and Deming via Greyhound and Amtrak.  Ditto on little charm.

3) From Grants, it is approx 115 miles north the Cuba.  I don't know of any public transit to Cuba.

Good luck with your hike,
Dylan Carlson

Very little traffic of late.

Question for you - what is the CDT mileage from from Cuba to Grants and how close to Grants does the trail actually get? Grants seems to be the first place south of Cumbres Pass with any public transportation.

Thanks,
