Hi Max.
I just hiked Nobo through the San Juans until Molas Pass where I came down to Silverton to resupply.
I encountered a LOT of snow but that's what I expected. My daily mileages averaged 15 per day hiking 13-14 hours a day. Postholing was the norm in many places and the trail was buried for much of the way by snow.
However in 10 days from now, judging from my own experience, you should encounter MUCH less snow.
No doubt you will walk atop some but the 4 foot drifts should melt down and you will no doubt see a lot more dirt trail than me.
Yes, it was very exhausting work but I knew it would be going in as early as I did.
The San Juans were/are worth every calf-scraping posthole and knee jarring plunge step I took.
Some of the snow traverses were quite dangerous but there is ALWAYS a way around.
Perhaps in ten days time they will be a bit safer.
I don't know exactly what it will be like in 10 days but I can say I was able to make it thru in one piece at least to here.
>From what I just experienced I would say GO FOR IT! You are never gonna regret the San Juans!
Absolutely Beautiful Wilderness!
Cheers-Iceaxe
