I have been receiving inquiries about our progress on the New Mexico Mapbook
from northbounders trying to plan their hike this season. We are moving
along nicely on this and the book should be available for sale in early
March. As with the Colorado Mapbook, all of the gps waypoints will be
available via a free download from CDTA. ( www.cdtrail.org )

FYI, the length of the official route in NM is 780.5 miles. (you have to
add 2.8 miles to that to get to Cumbres Pass from the state line) There are
1900+ waypoints with average spacing of 4/10th of a mile and maximum spacing
of about 7/10th of a mile. With the maps and a gps you should be able to
do it with much less of the customary confusion NM is famous for.

The mapping crew will start in the Great Basin - Wyoming in June. We have
all of Wyoming and 400 miles in Montana to complete then we are done! It is
our hope to have state Mapbooks for the entire trail available in 2012.

best wishes,
