The designated route crosses NM35 43 miles north of Silver City, so
you could use the resources along that highway to reduce the haul to
172.

My source is a spreadsheet I developed from Bearcreek's waypoints that
calculates cumulative miles to points along the designated route.  I'm
hoping that in the near future I can put it out there somewhere so
everyone can take a look.
