This is a crock.  You have thrived on user conflicts for years. You waged an incessant,  protracted war against CDTA.   What is amazing to me is that even after CDTA bit the dust, you can’t let it go.   

 

The trail will be fine, I think, but you have become irrelevant.

  longhiker, perhaps you can read Cupcake's original post again. It was not a malicious attack on the MWA. he simply questioned the policy of bicycle and motorized use, and made it clear HE doesn't like it and questions the long-term impact of wheeled uses, both human and machine. In your opinion it is misguided -- that's fine -- but it wasn't rude or inappropriate. I bet lots of CDT supporters struggle with the bicycle/motorcycle issue.

  I would also bet the MWA struggles with it as well, and it's doing the best it can.

It was not me that started this …    It was started by a totally misguided, malicious attack against one of the resources that is actually doing something to improve the CDT.

Longhiker I'm sure you are a fine person.  You should check your impulses to tell other hikers to "Get over it", "Stay home", & etc., and leave off sneering about "philosophers" on the CDT-L.  This is a public forum and the ethic ought to be civility.  I think your substantive point that the Montana Wilderness Association is a valued organization and deserving of hiker support was a good one.  But you were steadily undermining its impact with the extraneous comments.  We all belong within the hiker community and should feel welcome on trail.  

 

We all support avoiding user conflicts.  It's too late in the game to keep motorized recreationalists off public lands.  But it is not too late to keep them off a silent, hiker dedicated CDT.  That ought to be our common goal.
