We checked out all the wind mills in the Grants area. The first wind mill
is the Sand Canyon mill. It is full of water, but the output pipe is in the
water, so it is green and slimy. The next is the solar pump about a ¼ mile
north of where you exit Sand Canyon on hwy 117 and is running full (it is
about a mile and ½ beyond the Sand Canyon wind mill). You will have to
climb over a gate to get to the solar pump. The next is our water cache at
the entrance of the Acoma-Zuni trail – it is full of fresh water. Those
going across the Acoma-Zuni trail will find the next water 2 miles beyond
hwy 53 on Bonita Canyon road. The tank is full and the output pipe is just
enough above the tank so that you could get water directly out of pipe.
This will get you easily into Grants. There is still some snow on the
mountain, and the known springs are running. We will check again in a few
weeks. Carole Mumm
