We (myself and Walking Carrot) hiked the Crazy Cook to Lordsburg route early last June (09) northbound. I'd agree it was generally well marked, but there were a couple places that the post seemed to just disappear. Even so, the landscape is so open and topo features soo obvious that if you look at the map there's always a prominent feature (ridge, canyon etc) to go towards. There's generally no trail, just old jeep roads and cross country travel. The LM has maps that you can find from a link from the CDTA website; we transferred some of the BLM route info onto Jonathon Ley's maps and then used that in the field. <br><br>Lots of thorny things that go easily through the soles of running type shoes. Water was scarce, and we knew it would be so we placed caches the day before we started, using the location of the BLM boxes. Being uncertain about vandalism so close to the roads, we set some water in the boxes and some off on the dessert a hundred or so yards away. None of our "box" water was disturbed, but one of the gallons in the desert leaked out from a puncture (see thorny things above). As noted by someone else, the actual start is 25 miles down a dirt road, so a friend with a 4wd us helpful to have, or a trail angel. We notified the border patrol in Lordsburg and they used the occasion to train some rookies in how to observe cars and hikers.
