I heard him speak at our church a couple of years after his thru-hike, bought his book (autographed, of course), and reread it every few years. His hike is a great story, but the book is really more about his faith journey than his hiking journey.</DIV>

I stopped and asked myself out loud "How the hell did Bill Irwin do this?" When I got tired and thought about quitting, I would tell myself that if Bill and Grandma Gatewood could finish, then so could I.</DIV>
