Most hikers require the following books for their hike:
   Pacific Crest Trail: Southern California
   Pacific Crest Trail: Northern California
   Pacific Crest Trail: Oregon & Washington
   Pacific Crest Trail Data Book

If you were to purchase these books from the PCTA, they will cost $74.80 
(USD)
These same books from PeakGeek.Com (shameless plug) will cost you $45.95 
(USD)
(both exclude shipping)

If you're on a budget $30 difference might be a big deal. Some may call the 
difference robbery.

If you want to donate to the PCTA, use the $30 savings towards your 
membership fee and still have $5 bucks left over.

With the 10% PCTA member discount the books still cost $67.32. Not much of a 
benefit.
