By the way, for all of you trivia buffs: The nominal Cal/Or border is 42
deg. N latitude. South of Windsor, Ont. part of Canada, Pelee Point and the
Pelee Islands, extends south below the 42 deg. parallel. That means that
there is a part of Canada that is further south than part of California.
Weird, huh?
Steel-Eye
OK! Ready for more gps trivia? This involves the AT.
I got the latitude/longitudes of Springer Mtn and Mt Katahdin and subtracted
the two lat-longs. The AT will take us 11 degrees North and 15 degrees
East! Ken and I also discussed whether Maine is farther north than the 49th
parallel that scribes the boarder between western US and Canada. The answer
is that Maine is 3 degrees and some minutes farther south.
To put all of this in perspective for west coast hikers, we measured 11
degrees north and 15 degrees east of Los Angeles and the final point was on,
roughly, the Montana/South Dakota border! Tunnels through the Sierras and
the Rockies would then be equal to "The Long Green Tunnel" of the AT. =)

...GottaWalk, but never the AT again!
