I disagree!!!
Combat may be offensive or defensive.
If I am in danger of being overrun by a charging enemy I am on the defense.
You are right, if you are running away from me I do not  need to take defensive action, but what if you are charging me with a knife in your hand and I stop you with my 45 would that be defensive?
Tell your dad the old Gunny said keep up the good work and we are proud of him.
