I dunno. These sound to me like folk 'wisdom'  rather than anything
embraced by the medical profession. BTW, it was said that the
ancient Spartans drank very little (of anything) in the belief that
this 'hardened' them to endure thirst when on campaign. Of course,
no one knows if this was true or a myth they spread about themselves.
