Alternatively, you can take the KERN bus (1-800-323-2396) from Ridgecrest City Hall into Mojave (Stater Brothers' Market and Carl's Jr. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. See current schedule. Last time I looked (2004) they left Ridgecrest at 6 AM, 1:30 PM, and 6:50 PM and arrived in Mojave at 7:27 AM, 2:57 PM, and 8:17 PM. Inyokern Regional Airport in Mojave has daily service to LAX on United Express at 5:15 am.


On Monday through Saturdays, you can take the East KERN Express bus (1-800-881-5787) from Mojave into Bakersfield, where you can get  Amtrak, Greyhound, and commercial air service to just about anywhere you want to go.

It is also possible to go home via Reno, but the CREST Bishop to Reno bus only runs Tues, Thurs, and Friday, leaving Bishop at 7:00 am only, arriving reno airport at 11:45 am. There is an INYO bus Mon - Friday leaving Lone Pine at 7 am, 1:30 pm, and 6:30 pm, arriving in  to Bishop at 8:10 am, 2:40 pm, and 7:40 pm. Any way you go you'll have to stay overnight in Bishop.

  There is no public transportation from Onyx east to Walker Pass; only west-bound. Your only option is to hitchhike. Don't even think of trying to walk that hot, exposed blacktop road!

  The CREST buses run south from Statham Hall in Lone Pine at 10:25 am (the bus starts in Bishop) to Ridgecrest City Hall at 11:45 am on Mon, Wed, and Fridays only. 

  There is a new taxi service in Ridgecrest, but you'd have to call (760-793-7374) to see if they'd take you all the way to Walker Pass ($$$ ?). To Kennedy Meadows, maybe; but WP.......? Please post their response (yes or no, fares) to this list for informational purposes.

    Walker Pass?  Would be willing to pay for a ride.  Also, is there any public
