Well, it has finally happened. Scientists in Japan have come up with
virtual walking shoes called Power Shoes. They eliminate the forward and backward
motion while letting the wearer walk in a virtual world.

The shoes sit on top of motorized wheels connected to a computer worn by the
user along with a head-mounted display. The movement that is normal with
each step is canceled out as you "walk".

So, you could walk the whole PCT in your living room. You could even have a
backpack on for more realism.

How will the ALDHA-West react to this? What type of certificate will they
have for the Triple Crown Virtual Hiker?

On the another note, Adidas has come out with the 11.1 Sneaker ($250). The
running type shoe has a magnetic sensor and microprocessor in its sole. They
work together to adjust its cushioning according to running speed, weight,
and terrain.

Is this the perfect hiking shoe for the PCT? A picture of it looks
impressive.

Cheers, Switchback
Taking You to the Next Level
