Those passes are also pretty exhausting, so taking a break to recharge,
combined with the weight reduction can help to make the whole sierra
experience a little less exhausting and more enjoyable, IMHO.

Stopping off at Independence you can cut your food weight in half and only
need one bear canister if you use one.

Could also cut your fuel weight in half.

Those are the only big differences I can think of..
