A section of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) has been temporarily rerouted due
to a small wildfire in a remote, very steep section of the Plumas National
Forest.

The PCT is closed between the Fowler Peak Trailhead and Lookout Rock. It has
been rerouted to Forest Route 27, to Forest Route 94, to the Hartman Bar
trail, and then to road 23N60.

The fire was discovered late yesterday afternoon, burning in timber with a
heavy brush understory. Air tankers, helicopters, rapellers, smokejumpers
and fire crews are currently fighting the fire. The fire, currently 40
acres, is spreading with a slow to moderate rate of speed. The cause has not
yet been determined.

Community members and visitors are encouraged to check local fire
restrictions before pursuing outdoor activities and to be extra cautious
with activities that could cause sparks. All campfires and cigarettes should
be extinguished thoroughly.
