Hear! Hear! It is a great time snapshot and a gem in my library.

"To the Backpacker time and place have no meaning. Independent and
self-sustaining he is his own master. That is the joy of backpacking. Wandering where
and when he wishes, darkness finds him "everywhere at home.""
Clinton C. Clarke in "The Pacific Crest Trailway" 1943

It is a
rare book, maybe only 500 printed, and a rare treasure for any PCT hiker. It
is fun to read, it's on line, and it shows how much passion the author gave
to the trail; and it serves as an incredible snapshot in time of how the PCT
was planned, hiked, and laid out in the early years. In some ways it's
humerous with the gear, route, and style of hiking 60 years ago. The PCT
hiker has changed greatly over the years, and in many ways they have stayed
the same with their passion for this trail.
