Just an update that Rattlesnake  called me twice today from Alaska with 
reports from Mt. McKinley/Denali  NP.  He was up on the glacier and at the ranger 
station for climbs to the  top.  He saw big bear tracks while out on a ATV too. 
 The climbing  season is closing down due to heat and the danger of crevasses 
and  avalanches.
 
I say the PCT should end at the top  of Mt. McKinley.  There should be a 
plaque at the top with a register for  you to sign at the end of your PCT trip.  
No problem.  The PCT from  Campo to Manning is too wimpy.  People are now Yo-Yo 
the trail and set  speed records too.  Campo to Mt. McKinley is a nice hike 
and has a nice  ring to it.  Plus, you get the benefit of taking pictures of 
grizzlies  close up.  And making friends with mosquitoes that are large enough 
to  carry you off for a free ride around the lake.
