The remarkable thing about the 1998 season was not in what the winter was 
like, but in how snowy May and June were. If you compare the difference 
between the April 1 data of that year, and the June 15th data, some of the 
high sierra sites had not changed much by then. So even though the snow 
finally stopped falling on June 13th, it made for a very unusual July 
snowpack all through the Sierra and up to Lassen and Shasta. Only 1983 was 
similar.
