[pct-l] budgeting an extended hike

I am not planning on doing a thru-hike at this point.  Mainly hiking
in Oregon and now I am thinking about adding Washington to the mix.  I
live in Oregon near Salem so it would be pretty much in my own back
yard and would have support if I needed it.

I caught the following snip of an article at Backpacker.  Would I
budget $1000 to do Oregon and then another $1000 for Washington?
Could/would that be reasonable?  That would certainly give me
something tangeable to work towards.

Many PCT thru-hikers spend about $3,000, but you could easily spend
another $1,000, and some spend $6,000 or more. The Pacific Crest Trail
Association (PCTA) says the typical hiker invests $1,500 to $3,000 in
gear and clothing--what you actually spend prior to a thru-hike
largely depends on how much of it you already own--and spends $800 to
$2,000 for trail food and food drops, $500 to $1,000 on restaurants,
junk food, and motels, and $500 for replacement boots, clothes, and
other gear. As you can see, the big variables are, again, in-town
luxuries and food drops versus resupplying in towns
