There is a dedicated backpackers' campsite way in the NE back corner of the campground, along but about 50 yards from, the highway. The ranger at the gate will give you a map to it. You can walk from there to the showers and store. It's not too bad, and keeps you away from the main stream family car campers. The price is the roar of an occasional 18 wheeler going past on the highway.

  According to the CA Parks website, there are "primitive" campsites for $9, 
  but they're not shown on the map or mentioned in Yogi's or the Guide books. Does 
  anyone have comments, or input on these? Do most hikers stay in a motel here? 
  Is there a laundry in the St Pk?
