Marta,
I have the Sierra Birds book by John Muir Laws - and it is really fantastic. It is light enough to carry with you. I don't know about his other guide, but I am planning on getting it also because the first one is so good. I have some wildflower books too, but I have to go home and look at my library so I can remember the titles (I'm at that age!).

As an ignorant easterner heading to the Sierras for
the first time, I'm sure I won't know the names of
almost any birds or plants I'll see there. Does
anyone have recommendations for ID books that are not
too heavy to carry in the backpack, but inclusive
enough to be useful?
