Officials declared the Interchange Fire near Donner Lake 50 percent
contained at abvout 120 acres. The 6:40 p.m. anouncement came today after
winds calmed and ground crews were able to reach the site along Interstate
80. The highway is open.."It's burning in heavy timber which makes it very
difficult to fight from the ground," CalFire spokesman David Berlant said.He
said 300 firefighters were attacking the blaze with 37 engines, six air
tankers, four helicopters and two bulldozers.
