[pct-l] Whitney Permits

Any definitive Whitney experts out there?
 
We are planning to hike from Kennedy Meadows, to Crabtree Meadows, roundtrip
Whitney, and continue on and exit at Kearsarge Pass.  
 
Does this require a Whitney permit or should we just act like thru-hikers?
:>) It will be August, so not too many thruhikers..........
 
Info on the web is VERY confusing!
