I feel that if you want to pull on your face that is your issue.  Just 
don't ask me to help<grin>.

I hate shaving but have the same problem you do after a couple of 
weeks.  So I generally go as long as possible then shave and repeat.

As for hair, I don't look good without any so generally keep it between 
1/2" and an inch or so.  Cut is shorter on longer trips.

Have had a mustache for over 20 years now.  Does not seem to be a 
problem one way or the other.

Note that I have not yet done a multi week trek where access to shaving 
and hair cutting services would be a problem so my views may not be as 
relevant as others.
