[pct-l] bear canisters

If that is the case, next time, I could drop off the bear can at Tuolumne
Meadows, Instead of Tahoe. That would be a improvement. 

That means you would have a bear can from Kennedy Meadows to Tuolumne ?

My estimation was that more than 3/4 of 2006 thru-hikers used canisters. I
did, and I'd definitely do it again. I've seem too many nasty bear
encounters in the Sierra to even play with the idea. Didn't a PCTer get
swiped in the face a few years ago?

I did learn from a Yosemite ranger that thru-hikers don't actually need a
canister in that park. The way to do it is to camp outside of the park, hike
to Tuolumne to camp (use the bear locker) and then leave early enough and
you'll easily pass through the restriction area (7 air miles away). But
that's only for Yosemite, and doesn't affect whether you need a canister
south of that park. Personally, I wouldn't backpack in Yosemite without a
canister though.
