I used the guide book maps, and used Yogi's handbook, the maps I thought were fine for what we were doing, but could of course be better, also in color would help.
My opinion was that I liked the guide book maps, but didn't read the articles, I would rather just have a full set of maps. I understand that the Forrest service is putting some out, but haven't completed the PCT maps yet.
I am sure that some out there liked the guide books for the reading and found it use full, but I scarcely looked at anything but the maps.
Some people don't even use maps, but prefer to use the data-book. I really liked Yogi's handbook, and was glued to it for info about the next town. Usually a page had most if not all the details of a town, and the guidebook served as as the maps...

Are the maps printed in the guide books sufficient for a thru-hike (some
seem hard to read) or do you recommend getting individual maps? If so, where
can one get 1:50,000 maps?
