[pct-l] Alcohol stove, cameras and tents

I have used my soda can stove at altitudes of up to 18,800 feet and temps of down to 20 deg. with no problem. It does take a little longer for the fuel to vaporize, (and come out of the burner holes) I assume that is due to the cold temp, not the altitude.

HEET in the yellow bottle is methyl alcohol. Don't forget that it is only legal to mail it surface mail with the special warning label, although many just put it in their regular resupply boxes.

For me, one of the most important factors in choosing a camera for the trail was that it needed to be waterproof, I used a Pentax Optio WP for its small size and light weight. It only has a 3X zoom but in most cases you will need a tripod it you use anything over that, especially in low light situations. It doesn't use AA batteries but I found the Li-ion NP40 battery on eBay for about $3 each. I carried 4 of them, gave one away and usually only used 2 between stops. I bounced the charger, others carried them. We did have the advantage of a support crew that had a 12v to 120v inverter that we used for recharging in a couple of places with no electricity.

Only had a couple of problem areas for staking my Virga 2 Tarptent due to rocky ground, used rocks to help hold the stakes in those places. It is good to carry an extra stake or have some in your bounce box, they have been known to evaporate at times. ;)
