This is an important point.  If you just use a water filter your  
water containers
are never being sanitized (at least not until you get into town and  
do it
and of course everyone does that at every town stop, right?).

When you use Aqua Mira, bleach, iodine, etc. you are cleaning your water
containers each time you treat the water.
