I read Switchbacks advice on Postholer about carrying water weight
over legs by use of a fanny pack used as a belly pack. I just got
back from east of phoenix, hiking the superstitions and used a 5.0oz
Marmot 401 cu lumbar pack (available at REI) with two water bags. I
also used a couple of bottles belts (REI) attached to my g4 belt with
weight equal to what I'll be using on the PCT...the bottle belts
worked best...the weight was directly over my legs and I opted for my
electronics and oddball stuff in the marmot without water), a little
less than 4lbs of stuff that would normally be in my back pack...so
with 32oz over my legs and 4lbs in the belly pack the weigh
distribution for my 3 day hike was excellent and...6lbs less on my
back and shoulders...This has made me a lot more confident about
taking "everything I like and need" for the PCT. Tks for the tip
Switchback....it works.
