[pct-l] One sheet of TP - disgusting

There actually have been ideas like this circulating around, by "ultralite" fanatics who resent carrying TP. On another board not long ago, someone posted the idea of using a "pee rag" instead of toilet paper. While this woman did not say so directly, she strongly implied (by saying she doesn't carry any toilet paper) that she used this rag for both purposes. She thought she could wash it out after each use -- apparently, for both types of use.

There was a study done a few years ago, in California, that found that most cases of giardia and other intestinal diseases in the backcountry are caused by improper hygene, not contaminated water. In fact, most of the water samples taken were clean. The report concluded that trouble usually arises when hikers ingest food with dirty hands (and fingers!).

Note to self: Never share a bag of gorp with someone who is carrying suspiciously little TP.

That's what those in my backpacking classes said to me before they
realized it was a joke!

I agree. I've heard that more giardia is spread by not properly washing
hands and then sharing bags of gorp.
