Uh technically,

it started yesterday, in Guam.  You see Guam is an
unicorporated territory (like a state with no
congressional vote) on the other side of the
International date line.  Its slogan is "Where
America's Day Begins".  And July 4th came and went for
Guam while the rest of the US was still hanging around
in July 3rd.
