[pct-l] request for advice or help (Denis Stanton)

Denis,

It seems to me that one of the greatest values of this list is the way it
offers a place to ask for advice and assistance.

I did the Horseshoe Meadows to Kennedy Meadows hitch two summers ago --
though I like to leave my car at the end and hitch to the start when I'm
clean (can make it easier to get a ride). Also has the advantage of getting
the uncertainty out of the way.

By late morning there are usually lots of people coming out of the mountains
at Horseshoe -- you'll probably see some of them on the trail. Some of them
will be heading south on 395 -- so ask for a ride, and you'll soon get one
(it took me 30 seconds after parking my car at the trailhead). If this
doesn't work, go a few hundred yards down the road to add the chance to pick
up a ride with a car camper exiting the campground. If there are lots of
people around, I'd pass up a ride to Lone Pine (where hitching is more
difficult) to find somebody going south on 395.

You'll want to get dropped at the junction with the road up to KM. There is
very little traffic on this road, but most of the cars that come by are
hiker friendly. Hope you get a ride soon, because this junction has little
shade, and the temperature will be HOT.

Good luck, and have a great time ...

Tom
