Aloha Kansas Ed,


So the climb north from Sonora pass to the ridge is
pretty easy to follow.  After you cross the ridge
line, the 5 mile decent has a few places where its
easy to lose the trail.  As long as you follow the
valley and stream down, it shouldn't be a problem.
DEFINITELY bring a good topo map compass, even though
you might never have to use it.  Bring rain gair,
after all it is the Sierra.  water availability should
not be a problem (I seem to remember carrying no more
than 1 liter through that section).

When I hiked through there last year, I passed a large
group of young girl scouts, so I'm sure you guys can
handle it.  Other than that as I recall the trail was
easy to follow and quite pretty, lots of cool volcanic
features.
