The grocery store in sierra city has an atm cash machine for your use. Hope this helps.

What have people who have thru hiked the PCT done for
money along the trail? Obviously one wouldn't carry
large amounts of cash but are the smaller towns along
the PCT equipped for making transactions via debit
cards or ATMs. And how much would someone carry at any
one time?

I apologize in advance, I know most people don't like
talking about money but regardless it's an essential
part along the trail.

Also, is one bank favored over other in trail towns. I
am thinking about just getting a Wells Fargo or a B of
A checking account and putting a certain amount in it.

And how much would one say they spent, not including
initial gear purchases during the actual hiking part.
Including mailing bounce buckets, food, and the
occasional lodging? What are some estimates? Just
curious.

At Christmas dinner my cousin was joking with me about
how if criminals were smart enough they would stage
themselves just a few miles from the beginning of the
trail and make bank on on the fresh hikers with nice
new gear instead of robbing banks and quickie marts
that have video cameras! And people fear mountain
lions and bears!! Thanks and sorry for the scare!
