The question how we deal with the problems asociated the increased numbers of hikers, Is a HUGE question, perhaps the biggest question people who care about the pct have to deal with.
The discussion on this forum has been surprisingly mature and civilized, up to now.
Even so, I dont think that an internet forum, even such a civilized fourm like the pct-l, is the best medium to deal with this topic.

I think I read somewhere, the online forums are considerd one of the worst, and least fruitfull methods of discussion. Lacking the ability to see the body language of face to face conversation, or even the undertones of a phone call, people often misunderstand each others meaning, misinterpenting and over reacting to text messages like this, ending up with overheated online arguments, like this forum has seen in the past.

All of us on this list love about the pct. As such, many of us (me included), tend to be overopinionated about these topics we care so much about, often cousing us to stabernly stick to our opinions, making any dialoge and compromise almost impossible. This, I guess, is fine with most issues, but in such an important topic as dealing with future of the pct due to the steadly incresing number of hiker on the pct, I feel we have to avoid online argument.
I guess we all have exprienced situations where one smile was able to diffuse a situation which would otherwise become a quarell, and that is only possible in a face to face discussion. As importand as this diccusion is, I feel should suspend it for a while, and move it to a physical meeting and discusion.

I suggest the the Kickoff would be the best place for such a dicustion.
Even for those who want to Boycott the kickoff, wouldn't the kickoff itself give the best example of why to should be changed?
For example, the best way to show the probelms involved with 100 drunken hikes hanging around the trail, is seeing first hand those 100 drunken hikers hanging around the kickoff. (I'm exagerating of course, at least I hope...)
