Wow you all are really old! It's gotta be hard to keep your pack weight down having to carry all those Depends. I'm 23 and really healthy. Actually, i'm really, really healthy. Jk! I have some lower back pain as well and i'm wondering if it's a commonplace problem for long distance hikers. I plan on thru-hiking the PCT this year and i'd like to hear from previous thru-hikers if, say, after 5 solid months of backpacking they're feeling like Quasi Modo. Maybe, with all that weight i'm saving with all this expensive ultra-light gear, i can make room for one of those battery powered back massagers.

A couple of key points I need a good soft pad so I can move in the mornings, For the same reasons as above, I use a self inflating. To keep weight down, mine is 3/4 length.

So 3.5 lb internal frames? I had a heavy Dana pack and bought a lighter Kelty Shadow at 3# 10 ozs. Larger than I need at 4500 capacity.

I'm obviously not an ultra-light, but my way works for me. Hope you find one that makes your journey as pleasant as possible :) Enjoy the list and the trail.
