You will find that bears and dogs can create some of the strongest
opinions on this lists. You might want to read the list archives first.
Also check the FAQs on the PCTA site.

Briefly, food storage requirements to protect against bears are listed
at
http://www.sierrawildbear.gov/foodstorage/index.htm
I've heard that "they" are preparing a comprehensive map of all bear
requirements and bear boxes in the Sierra for posting to that site in
the future, and that "they" might bring those maps to ADZ "if" they are
ready.

As for dogs, reposted from last month:

You will probably get some strong opinions about bringing a dog on the
trail.

As for legality, dogs are not allowed on the trails in national parks
and California state parks. This includes Anza-Borrego (just north of
Laguna), a tiny bit of San Jacinto, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite,
Lassen, Crater Lake, and others. A couple California state parks make
exceptions for the PCT only (Castle Crags and maybe one other). The
national parks make no exceptions.

Also remember your furry friend will do anything to make you happy but
can't tell you when she is really miserable because of long miles, sharp
rocks, cold, heat, etc. Your schedule may be affected by her needs.
