[pct-l] Ultra-compressible down sleeping bags?

Rachael,

I have the Osprey Stratos 40, a slightly smaller pack, but with "pockets" on the outside for stowing extras. I have no trouble getting gear and food for a week in it. This is with a light down bag. It does sound like your Army synthetic bag is very bulky, and probably heavy. And if indeed you are carrying 30 lbs of gear (not including food, water, and the weight of the pack), you can easily cut that in half (probably more).

When you get a down bag, though, don't try to compress it to its absolute minimum -- you'll shorten its life. Only compress it as much as necessary for as short a time as necessary.

Enjoy the trail,

-Osprey
