I daresay a fair portion of the "wilderness" in North America is beyond  
the Arctic Circle, and that none of Africa is beyond the Antarctic  
Circle.  Are we comparing temperate wildereness(es)?

Too, Africa has had humans a helluva lot longer than either of the  
Americas.
