Switchback replies: Yes, we senior hikers deserve to be respected and
honored for our duty to our country -- everyone please send me $10. Especially
when there seems to be so many who do not even know why they should love their
country. I bet a lot of citizens under 35 would be hard press to name three
things they love about the America and what they would give their lives for.
Now days too many people parasite off the sacrifices and courage of others --
past and present.

That is why I like the trail community. In this case, the PCT community.
There seems to be a lot of folks who know what sacrifice and continual
vigilance is all about. It is about using and protecting a trail environment --
giving back to your community and country. When you put something besides
yourself as very important, that is admirable and a wonder human characteristic.
Hurray for hiker-trash and hard-core backpackers who honor the trail and
remember those who made it possible. That is most of the folks on the PCT-List.

Now I could go into why so many personal relationships fail and our mediocre
school systems, but I will not -- off topic, taking up bandwidth, etc.
Ooops. CRASH!! I just fell off my soapbox, but not to worry, I am okay.

Cheers, Switchback the Trail Pirate
PS: By the way, on your three things you love about America, you might start
with the Bill of Rights.
