My dogs love to hike too.  The labbie hiked 28 miles in the San Felipe Hills with me one day.  But I came to realize the PCT was another ball of wax when I saw several well-trained dogs attempt and fail before Idyllwild.  Listen to L-Rod.  She has seen it first hand.

Underneath my links, I mentioned how the desert is a whole 'nother ball of wax.

Should be repeated twice, though. Donna has probably seen many dogs who frankly looked very worse for wear after the SoCal desert.
