Carrying a bear canister means losing your food to most non-humanoid critters is one less thing you have to worry about at night. No Plan B is required. Roll over and sleep soundly.

If by some chance the critter is big enough to carry off your (unmodified) bear can, it's probably in your best interest not to confront or upset it anyway.
