Ok, I'm a 6'4 guy, 225+ pounds, and I'm still paranoid at times, even
though I know my appearance has intimidated a few in remote areas. IMO
the advice given is worth at least considering. It's ok to be paranoid,
just don't show it - look confident and secure so you don't look like a
victim.

As for tents, I figure if nothing else they block the view of what is
inside, meaning someone passing by can't tell if it's a gal by herself
or a big crazy guy with a shotgun, and therefore more likely to be left
alone. Just my opinion.

"I am sure that this gets asked all the time. I have done a search but
haven't been able to find anything so here I am asking everyone here. I
am
a 28 year old female in good shape. I am preparing to hike part of the
trail next summer over 6 weeks. How safe is it for me to be on the
trail by
myself? I am guessing that it is no more dangerous to hike by yourself
than
it is to travel in the US by yourself. I mostly concerned about
sleeping in
a tent rather than in a car or hostel.
