If you're in a parade, then by default you're on display. If you don't 
want the attention, either sit on the sidelines or go for a quiet stroll 
one street over.

And yes, the PCT, for better or worse, has become something of a hiker 
parade. All else (privacy concerns, vandalism, discarded beer cans, 
snarled traffic patterns) is merely details. Symptoms of the same condition.

With the right attitude and expectations, parades can be fun. Come 
unprepared, though, and watch out for the cannon fire!
